What is BPMN?

The Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) is the de-facto standard for business process modeling. It is an industry standard released by OMG and supported by a wide range of vendors and consultants. The current version BPMN 2.0 allows you to define activities, control flow, data flow, organizational dependencies and system dependencies of business processes.

The Signavio Process Manager supports BPMN 2.0 in full, including all modeling constructs and attributes. The syntax rules of BPMN are enforced by the Editor.

The team behind Signavio is committed to BPMN. Several of the co-founders were involved in the standardization process and are promoting BPMN in industry and academia.

As an alternative, the Signavio Process Manager allows you to create Event-driven Process Chains (EPC). This process modeling language is quite popular in Germany. While EPC used to be the most utilized modeling language in Germany until 2008, BPMN has overtaken EPC in usage in 2009 for the first time.

Additionally, the notations Organization Chart and Value Chain are available in the Signavio Process Manager.
